The future of ticketing is here.
Welcome to the Tixologi Newsletter, where we break down the latest news in ticketing and event production. We keep you up to date, so you can focus on selling tickets.
Industry News
The ticketing industry has been a hot topic over the past few months, just not necessarily in a good way. Ticketing is due for some major changes and over sixty-five thousand artists, venue owners and other industry executives are stepping up with calls to '“Fix the Tix”. Ticketmaster was hit by a hacker group which led to millions of customers’ data being leaked. The Paris Olympics is well underway and they’ve already broken records in terms of the number of tickets sold.
Main Story
A Shift In Ticket Buying Behavior
While some of the biggest artists in the world like Taylor Swift and Drake are consistently drawing large online queues to buy tickets as soon as they go on sale, most events down the chain face a different challenge.
Now more than ever, attendees are waiting until closer and closer to the event to buy tickets. This shift is reshaping the landscape of event planning and ticket sales and making it harder and harder for event producers to accurately predict revenue and staff their events.
COVID may have played a role in starting this shift, but even coming out of the pandemic over the past few years, the trend has continued. So what else could be causing the shift?
It may be that there is a wider variety of options to choose from. More comedy shows, more concerts and more emerging sports entering the scene. With so many entertainment choices, it’s harder for fans to commit to a specific event far in advance.
Budget no doubt also plays a role. With rising prices for rent, groceries, gas, etc., now more than ever, people are sticking to tighter budgets and taking on more of a “spend only when you have to” mindset. Unfortunately, purchases like tickets may have to be delayed till that next paycheck comes in or other monthly expenses get covered first.
Along the same lines, in the world of dynamic ticket pricing, attendees often believe that ticket prices will decrease if they wait until closer to the event.
These factors and others make it challenging for event producers to predict sales and revenue for their events and create concern around covering upfront expenses/production costs.
The good news is, there are several things event producers can do to encourage earlier buying. Reaching out to your audience leading up to the event more than once is vital. A single press release or one big social post won’t do, the message likely needs to be heard or seen multiple times before resonating.
Another option is to provide incentives for buying tickets further in advance. Perhaps those who buy tickets earlier get a discount on their ticket or a promo code for a merchandise discount on the day of the event.
One other approach is to lean into the social power of your community. If you focus hard on building your community and give your fans a good experience, they can help you reach new people. Use tools like affiliate links to track how many tickets each person has sold. That data will allow you to easily identify your “influencers” and lean into their networks to pull others in.

We are excited to share several new features and product updates added to Tixologi over the past several months.
Affiliate Links
Event producers can now quickly spin up multiple ticket links for the same event, allowing them to track the number of sales and revenue generated through those links.
Improved At The Door Sales
Selling tickets at the door has never been easier. Download a QR from the event page and post it near the entrance of your event to seamlessly create a 10-second checkout experience for your attendees using Apple Pay.
Static Tickets
You now have the ability to select PDF tickets as an alternative option to fully digital tickets with dynamic barcodes. It’s up to you to decide which ticket format is best for your audience.
Ticket Groups
Tickets can now be sold as groups, I.e. buy a 5-ticket group of tickets in one purchase. This can also be used to facilitate table sales at specific events, where purchasing a table provides access to multiple tickets. Just let us know if you want help setting up ticket groups!
